Arts Award 2019
Year 6 have been working hard for their Arts Award this year and exploring artists who are differently abled as part of our Celebrating Diversity theme this year in Art. Children have taken part in visual impairment workshops at Harrogate Theatre, created a mosaic with participants and their carers from Craft Aid International and developed art works inspired by David Hockney, Stephen Wiltshire and Labina Himid.
See below what pupils have been doing for their Arts Award.
Pupils choreographing, Proud To Be Me, for the upcoming Arts Exhibition
Pupils working with Craft Aid International on a mosaic sculpture to be unveiled at the Arts Exhibition 5th June.
Pupils creating architectural drawings of Harrogate buildings inspired by artist Stephen Wiltshire, who is autistic savant.
Pupils have been working on a year group installation inspired by artist Libaina Himid, a Turner Prize winner whose art works look at slavery. Pupils created an art piece to be exhibited at the Arts Exhibition which looks at modern day slavery.
As part of our Celebrating Diversity programme this year, and as part of our Arts Award we have been studying the world famous and Yorkshire born artist David Hockney who has been an incredible inspiration to the contribution to the history of Art. Year 6 have been inspired by Hockney’s charcoal drawings of Yorkshire.

Moderation Report 2017
‘ The young people have clearly gained a lot from doing their Arts Award and have achieved all assessment criteria in order to pass. They’ve had a rich experience and I particularly love the animation. Communication in part D was well documented using the videos. Evidence was easy to find, well laid out and well labelled. Congratulations on a successful moderation’. Moderator May Knowles. Arts Award.
