We are Oatlands Juniors. We're Amazing!

Year 3 Badgers

We're the Badgers!

We're clean and tidy, strong and protecting. We work hard and make friends for life.

Badgers Class Reminders:

  • Children are to wear their PE kits to school every Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Please sign your child's diary when they have completed their home reading book.
  • Please sign your child's diary underneath the weekly timetable for them to earn an easy-peasy Oatlands Point!

Year 3 Curriculum Spring Overview

Copper January and February

A reminder to all parents and carers, this is the last week to bring in your copper coins. The amount raised by the Badger's class goes directly back to them, to choose and vote on what wet play toys they would like.

Thank you for your support.

Congratulations to these two children who have been awarded the two special mention certificates for this half term.

Here are Badger's class celebrating each others amazing homework. With a few extra pictures for those who brought in models. Thank You.

Statutory Word list for Year 3

Homework
A reminder to all parents and carers that homework for Spring term 1 is due in tomorrow (Wednesday 12th February). If you could also make sure your child brings in their homework folder that would be greatly appreciated.
NSPCC Number Day

A massive CONGRATULATIONS to all the parents and carers who kindly donated their silver coins, to help raise funds for NSPCC number day. As a class, we raised over £48. Not only that but raised the most as a class in the whole school.

An extra special mention and congratulations to this child and her family who managed to raise over £25 in silver coins.

This week in English, we acted out our own dilemma stories in groups.

More Videos

A reminder that it is NSPCC day on Friday 7th February. If you could send your child in with as many spare silver coins as you have that would be great. Thank You.

We have been trying really hard to use a dictionary to find the definitions of words and how to spell words correctly.

In P.E this week, we have been working on teamwork, social skills and praising / encouraging others.

In English this week, we had a go at creating book spines with unique puns related to our names where possible.

Merry Christmas!

I wanted to wish all the class and their families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Also a very big thank you to all of you who so generously contributed to my gift and to Sarah Wilkinson for organising it. It has been a pleasure teaching Badgers class and I look forward to seeing them all in the New Year.

Special Mentions

A big well done to both the children chosen this half term for special mentions. As always it's tricky to pick just two, but both these children have been standing out for all the right reasons!

Christmas dinner!

The children came in a wonderful mix of Christmas jumpers today to enjoy their Christmas dinner.

Bauble workshop

Today the children loved their chance to paint and decorate a Christmas bauble!

Author visit - Stephen Pass

Stephen visited and delivered a workshop to all Year 3 and Year 4 children today. He shared with us his first book: 'Madge the Mermaid'. Stephen read more of his book with us and explained where his ideas had come from whilst; a holiday in Perranporth, Cornwall. It took Stephen nearly three years to write his book and his second one will be published in three weeks!

Jorvik

We had a great time on our trip to York to support our learning about Vikings. First went on the Jorvik experience and most of us held our noses all the way round! Next was the battle workshop. We learned about and some people held, Viking weapons and shields. I think we realised that many of us would not have made very good Viking warriors and need to polish up on our battle skills! For our final activity we went into the Dig experience and became real-life archaeologists, looking at bones and things found in the ground.

Thank you once again to all the parents and carers who volunteered to support us on the visit, your time is very much appreciated.

Children In Need

Today the children got to roll straight out of bed and into school wearing their pyjamas for Children In Need, bringing a donation along with them. They also enjoyed a work out with a video featuring Joe Wicks! Thank you all for your donations, the total we raise will be in this week’s newsletter. Badminton

Badgers are really enjoying their weekly badminton sessions at Harrogate Racquets Club. The children have already started work on their back hands and made super progress so far!

Class Book

Our current class book is Horrid Henry by Francesca Simon. Here's a little more about the book.  'These four tales of a very naughty boy, his maddeningly good little brother Perfect Peter, and Moody Margaret, all show him wreaking havoc.'

Special Mentions

Congratulations to the two children that received special mentions in assembly today for their hard work, determination and mature attitude. Their certificates were thoroughly deserved!

Homework Celebration

Today was our Autumn 1st half term homework celebration. I was really impressed with the standard of the homework and enjoyed seeing all of the children's hard work. For every child I wrote a note about the piece of homework that had impressed me the most. The children also enjoyed the opportunity to read each other’s work and leave each other positive comments. Thank you to all the adults that help support their child at home, particularly with the models which were very impressive!
