We are Oatlands Juniors. We're Amazing!

Year 5 Macaws

We’re the Macaws!

Welcome to our class

We’re lively and positive, brilliant and bright.

We fly high and make the most of every day!

“The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it.”

Peter Pan - JM Barrie

Summer 2022

Welcome back!

Things to remember:

  • Mondays and Thursdays are PE (please wear PE kits and remove jewellery). Monday is PE with Mrs King and Thursday in PE with Miss Ramsey

  • Monday morning will be a chance to diarise the week, please sign your child's diary to acknowledge that they have read at home.

  • Wednesday is library afternoon.

We've had an eggcellent last day of term!

As it is the last day before the Easter Holidays, we've enjoyed an Easter Egg hunt with all of the Year 5 and making Easter cards as well as take part in the decorated egg competition. Well done to everyone who took part and a Happy Easter from all the Macaws!

The Red Arrows

We had a fantastic afternoon watching the Red Arrows fly over the playground in the sunshine with the rest of the school! It is an afternoon we will all remember!

Red Nose Day

Today we dressed in red or came as a superhero to celebrate and raise money for Red Nose Day. Thank you to everyone who donated and brought a Red Nose in support.

British Science Week

As part of British Science Week, we have followed the theme of Growth. We then had a go at measuring trees using an unconventional method - looking through our legs! It was lots of fun and provided plenty of laughter for all involved!

World Book Day!

Today we have enjoyed sharing our favourite books with children in Year 3 in our annual World Book Day celebrations!

NSPCC Number Day

Today is NSPCC Number Day 2022! All of the children have enjoyed a day full of maths fun! We looked at solving mathematical puzzles using subtraction - just look at some of our brilliant examples. The children have also learned about the vital role of the NSPCC and have completed the ‘Speak Out Stay Safe’ programme.

Looking at Forces in Science

We have really been enjoying our forces unit in Science this half term! We have investigated the strength of magnets, tested gravity using balloons and also weighed a variety of classroom objects using Newton Meters - just look at the fun we have had in our learning!

Abbie Ayre and the Shed of Science.

Today all of the Year 5 children enjoyed a fabulous production by Abbie Ayre and the Shed of Science. We learned all about air pollution and its causes, as well as ways that we can help to reduce air pollution in our own lives. This afternoon, we will be looking at planning a 'Clean Air Day' - watch this space!

Our Class Story

Special Mentions - Autumn 2

Well done to Emily and Seb for their very well deserved Special Mentions certificates this half term. You have both worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of all that you have achieved so far in Year 5!

Christmas in the Macaws Class

Christmas has arrived here in the Macaws class. We have enjoyed a Christmas Dinner, visited the PTA Secret Santa shop for a spot of retail therapy and enjoy a Christmas party! Just look at some of the fun we've had at the end of this term. Merry Christmas from the Macaws!

Swimming - just look at how good we are!

We have really been enjoying our swimming lessons on a Monday morning and have improved our technique so much! Some of us have even been swimming in our pj's!

Children in Need

This year to support Children in Need we took part in Joe Wickes Live PE and Quiz workout, came to school in Superhero fancy dress, yellow or spots and completed lots of activities about this amazing charity. Just look at some of the fun we had!

Our Class Story

Special Mentions - Autumn 1

Well done to Megan and JJ for their well deserved Special Mention Certificate! You have both worked incredibly hard this half term and are worthy recipients of this award - you should be very proud of yourselves.

Science Week 2021

What a great start we have made to science week! Over the course of this week, the Macaws are going to be completing a range of experiments on the topic of working scientifically. Take a look at our photos to see what we have been getting up to!

Swimming

We have really enjoyed our first swimming lesson of this term! We can't wait to learn all the different swimming techniques as well as having fun in the water!

Our Class Story

This term we are reading Cosmic by Frank Cottrell-Boyce. This is the blurb:

He wanted to see the world - but not quite like this...

Liam Digby is an ordinary twelve-year-old child. A very, very TALL ordinary twelve-year-old. Some people even think he's a grown up. This is the incredible story of how he told some fibs, nearly stole a Porsche, went to a theme park and sort of by accident ended up in space.
