Eco Committee
At Oatlands Junior School, we aim to inspire in our pupils a lifelong curiosity about the outside world and all its living things.
Through high quality learning experiences, all pupils will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to understand and limit the human impact and developing a love and interest for the natural environment.
Our Eco Committee aims
At Oatlands Junior School, we aim to foster in our pupils a curiosity and responsibility for the environment and all its living things. Through high quality learning experiences and a culture based on increasing sustainability, all pupils will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to understand and limit the human impact on, and develop a love and concern for, the natural world.
In the next month or so, our nature area will reopen and pupils will be able to enjoy spending quiet time in there, appreciating the birds, minibeasts and changing colours and scents of the plants.

How we support the environment at Oatlands Junior School
Everyone at Oatlands Junior School has a role to play in improving our sustainability credentials and our Eco Committee regularly meet to review, make plans and implement our ideas. Each classroom has a recycling station for pens and glue sticks and separate bins for general waste, dry mixed recycling and fruit/veg waste. Much of our lighting comes from energy efficient LED bulbs that use less energy and turn themselves off when not required. We also have solar panels on our roof to help reduce our energy intake.
This year, we have launched the ‘Just One Thing’ initiative. We hope that if each of us makes one small change to our daily habits, we can have a more positive impact on the Earth and its resources. Why not share your ideas with us at #OJSJust1thing?
